Architecture Design of Weave House

Description About The Project

Weave House designed by Wahana Architects occupies a relatively confined space of 435 sqm, encompassed by towering three-story structures. With limited potential for a harmonious integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, the architects sought to create a distinctively introspective ambiance through innovative spatial exploration. However, an opportunity presented itself on the rooftop, revealing a slight glimpse of the city skyline and enchanting illuminations. Exploiting this potential, the design was extended to offer additional space for the residents to indulge in various activities within the confines of their home.

The webbing envelops the second and third floors of the dwelling, presenting an appearance of seclusion from the outside world while simultaneously allowing gentle illumination to permeate through the lattice. Complementing this visually captivating feature, a fence resembling intricately woven patterns, meticulously crafted from laser-cut metal, adorns the front facade. The external aesthetics of the building exude an organic quality, diverging from the conventional rigidity often associated with modern architecture. This distinctive design language seamlessly extends to the interior, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for the inhabitants.

Central to the house’s concept is the creation of a focal point a core that connects the various spaces within the residence. Anchoring this central axis is a pool area, flanked by the surrounding mass of interconnected rooms, including a family room, dining area, and bedrooms. This arrangement fosters a profound connection between the house and its natural surroundings, countering the initial impression of confinement and evoking a sense of openness.

Employing a partially transparent design, the inner sanctum is shielded from the outer environment while allowing an appropriate infusion of natural light. To soften the building’s mass and imbue it with an informal charm, the architects opted for the use of locally sourced synthetic webbing—an incredibly lightweight material with vast untapped potential.

The webbing that cover the second and third floors of the house seem closed from the outside. But still create light into the house through the lattice.

Text by the Architects: Starting from a question “How do you make a family, each of which already has a busy and fairly dense activity in the midst of the hustle bustle of the city of Jakarta, when they come home they can experience bonding each other in a quality, warm, intimate space, and beautiful?”
