Architecture Design of Retiro Temozón Casa BC
Description About The Project
Retiro Temozón Casa BC, designed by R79 architect Roberto Ramírez Pizarro, is a serene retreat crafted for an elderly woman whose child has left home. The design emphasizes simplicity and ease of movement, with most of the living spaces located on the ground floor for practicality. The home embodies a continuous connection between the interior and exterior, blending spaces seamlessly to create a natural flow. This terrace-like concept allows the boundary between indoors and outdoors to disappear, encouraging an informal lifestyle that celebrates open air, such as hanging a hammock and enjoying the breeze.
The architectural layout is an “L” shape, with the social spaces, including the living room, kitchen, and terrace, opening directly to the lush garden, while private spaces like the main bedroom and guest room are tucked away on the other side. A hall ties these areas together, as the home forgoes a traditional living room in favor of an informal gathering area. The second floor houses essential utilities, including a service area for daily support staff, storage, and laundry facilities, all of which are complemented by additional ground-floor service areas.
The material palette is clean and functional, using natural elements such as round stones, white stucco, wood, and steel to define different spaces. Expansive glass doors further enhance the terrace-like design, providing flexibility to open up to the outdoors or remain enclosed for air conditioning.
