A Dialogue Between Architecture and Nature

Set in the lush surroundings of the Atlantic Forest in Ubatuba, São Paulo, the JV Residence by Pitta Arquitetura embodies the principles of contemporary tropical architecture. Spanning 260m² across two floors, the home was designed to integrate seamlessly with its environment while offering comfort, privacy, and a strong sense of connection to nature.

As architect Thiago B. Pitta shared with Luxury Houses Magazine: “We sought to create a simple and elegant design, with the hipped roof clad in black shingles becoming both a strong visual identity and a subtle gesture of integration with the landscape.”

Form, Materials, and Comfort

The project emphasizes clean modern lines enhanced by generous eaves, which extend outward to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. These overhangs provide protection from the sun while also creating shaded transitional zones that encourage outdoor living.

The design palette combines gray-toned wood panels with a black metal structure, striking a balance between sophistication and restraint. “Our goal was to reflect the residents’ desire for a welcoming and functional home, while maintaining a discreet dialogue with the surrounding greenery,” explained Rodrigo Alves Pereira of Pitta Arquitetura.

Inside, warm wood ceilings continue onto balconies, reinforcing continuity with nature. Custom cabinetry by GM Marcenaria and sandy-hued flooring further enhance this cohesion. The home’s louvered panels and articulated shutters allow for precise control of sunlight and privacy, while enabling constant cross-ventilation.

Integrated Living Spaces

On the ground floor, an open-plan layout seamlessly connects the living room, dining room, and kitchen, anchored by a central island. This social core extends onto a gourmet balcony that can be enclosed with folding panels, transforming the space according to the family’s needs. Three suites, including a children’s room opening directly to the garden and pool, complete this level.

As architect Luiza Querido noted: “More than just comfort, the intention was to offer residents a full sensory experience — one where nature enters the home and becomes part of their daily routine.”

Landscape, Light, and Atmosphere

Landscaping by Plantare enriches the sense of immersion, with tropical species carefully positioned to provide privacy while softening the geometry of the architecture. The pool serves as the centerpiece of the leisure area, reflecting the greenery and sky in its surface.

Natural light filters through expansive glazing, adjustable louvers, and double-height spaces, creating an ever-changing play of shadows. At night, lighting by Geo Cerâmica and Spot Iluminação accentuates textures and architectural details, extending the home’s warmth into the evening hours.

“Every detail, from the tactile woodwork to the articulation of light and shadow, was designed to enhance the experience of living with nature,” emphasized Thiago B. Pitta.

Technology, Craft, and Sustainability

The JV Residence represents a collaboration between architecture, craft, and technology. Suppliers such as Portobello, GM Marcenaria, Polytec, Marmoraria Di Pietra, and Mundo das Pedras contributed bespoke finishes and systems that elevate both function and aesthetics.

A Tropical Modern Home in Harmony with the Atlantic Forest

The JV Residence by Pitta Arquitetura demonstrates how a modern home can achieve balance between design, comfort, and the surrounding landscape. It is not only a space for living but also a daily dialogue with the rhythms of the Atlantic Forest — an architectural retreat where nature and family life are inseparably intertwined.
