Millgrove House, a breathtaking design by Toms + McNally Design as an architectural statement of modern luxury. Setting upon 50 pristine acres hidden from view amongst the Flamborough countryside, this home is a place to live in comfortably, entertain and connect with the serenity of its natural environment. The house presents itself modestly to the street but opens grandly to present stunning views of the surrounding farm land. Indeed, it is a home that responds to the context and unique lifestyle of country living with a structure that is defined by volumes of space and walls of glass with day lighting to bring joy to the residents.

As a place to live in comfortably, entertain and grow older, the house aims to accommodate their expanding family including the grandchildren. Certainly, it is dream house with wonderful living space including patio, pool and stunning views of farmland. In addition to this, the interior offers so many amenities combined by wonderful living room idea; dining room idea; kitchen idea; bedroom idea; bathroom idea. Without a doubt, it is ideal place to live in comfortably, entertain and spend time together.

Toms + McNally Design collaborates with the clients to creatively respond to their project and its unique characteristics. They see problems as opportunities, combining context, space, and a respect of materiality and environment to create enduring architecture. For this project, they provided Construction Management services as well as design. This approach allowed for a high level of finish and control of the finished product. Millgrove House is a globally-impressive architecture that intentionally appears to have stemmed from its context, in Hamilton Ontario, into a home for a growing family.

The kitchen, dining and living rooms—the spaces in which they cook, spend time and make memories together—are the focal points of the of the house. Indeed, these spaces are in one generous volume capped with a sloped douglas fir roof rising to the south, opening up expansive views of the meadows and forests. Also, the lower level—a walkout made possible by the topography of the site—is kept almost entirely column free, keeping it bright and not obscuring views of the landscape.

There are the natural materials and day lighting to bring joy to the residents. Besides, the palette for the house includes three types of wood (douglas fir roof beams and deck, walnut and white oak flooring) as well as limestone, and zinc. Moreover, the use of high quality materials, including stone, resulted in a high level of sustainability with low maintenance requirements as the building matures.

Text by the Architects: For Toms + McNally Design, Architecture is a response to context. Millgrove House, located in rural Hamilton, sits on a property that contained an abandoned apple orchard, and a hay-growing farm for local use. Situated between mature treelines and forests, the site is gently rolling. As a result, the design strategy was to use the topography in order to maintain a modest appearance from the street while providing a spacious home for a middle-aged couple with four adult children.
