Architecture Design of Cigarra House
Description About The Project
Cigarra House by FGMF Arquitetos perched on a sloping plot at the edge of a protected green area, the embodies a harmonious integration with its natural surroundings through a unique design divided into three main blocks. The lower section of the house, designed as a massive, stone-like structure, seems to emerge organically from the earth, grounding the home firmly within the landscape. As the terrain descends toward the woods, this block reveals itself more prominently, eventually detaching from the ground to create a dramatic visual statement. This partially subterranean volume houses private spaces such as bedrooms, a family room, laundry, and garage. At its core, a carved patio brings light and air into the interior, with tall trees connecting vertically to the upper spaces, softening the solidity of the base.
In contrast to the grounded lower block, the two upper volumes appear to float above it, adding a sense of lightness and transparency. The larger of these volumes serves as a bridge, guiding visitors into the house and transforming into a stunning cantilever that reaches out towards the treetops. This level contains the main social areas, including the living and dining rooms and the kitchen. On one side, the living room extends onto a spacious deck that rests atop the lower block, leading to a solarium with a swimming pool that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding woods. The smaller upper block, located at the edge of the pool, provides shade for a dining area and an open kitchen complete with a barbecue and pizza oven. The light, airy nature of these upper volumes is achieved through the use of steel and glass, complemented by louvers and green walls that regulate the house’s temperature naturally.
The Cigarra House’s design is more than just inspired by its location; it seeks to become an integral part of it, blending simple, elegant shapes with the natural topography and vistas.
