Architecture Design of House on V-Stilts

Description About The Project

House on V-Stilts designed by K-Thengono Design Studio is an elevated sanctuary. Facing the severe challenge of land subsidence caused by excessive groundwater use, a cherished property in Jakarta’s premier waterfront area sought a transformation. The owner enlisted K-Thengono Design Studio to devise a solution that not only revitalized and protected their home but also enhanced its connection to the waterfront while delivering a luxurious, penthouse-like living experience.

The residence’s living areas are innovatively elevated on sleek, black V-shaped stilts, maximizing panoramic ocean views while creating a flood-proof space. This design preserves clean aesthetics by minimizing columns. The raised ground floor, now 3.3 meters above the original terrain, accommodates parking and service areas. Above, the communal area with a refreshing pool serves as a social hub, while the third level offers serene bedrooms with captivating sea views. At the top, a multipurpose space with a spacious balcony overlooks the canal.

Sustainability is at the core of the design, with each floor positioned to optimize natural light and reduce reliance on artificial cooling. The second-floor workspace is shaded by a cantilevered volume, and the living room’s orientation towards a neighboring park shields it from intense afternoon heat. Durable materials were chosen to minimize maintenance, and a rainwater harvesting system supports landscape irrigation, emphasizing eco-friendly design.

The expansive outdoor area is lined with coastal-adaptive, low-maintenance, and edible plants that act as natural windbreaks. The space includes a designated area for pets and a terrace perfect for yoga or barbecues, leading to a private pier that seamlessly transitions between indoor and outdoor living. K-Thengono Design Studio has created an environmentally conscious and resilient haven, offering luxury, privacy, and peace of mind in the face of a changing environment.
