Architecture Design of OVD525 House
Description About The Project
OVD525 House designed by Three14 Architects perched on the steep mountainside of Bantry Bay, Cape Town, is a private residence designed to embrace its breathtaking surroundings. With uninterrupted views of Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard, Robben Island, the city skyline, and iconic Lion’s Head Mountain, this home capitalizes on its privileged location, offering a harmonious balance of privacy, luxury, and connection to nature.
Replacing a previous structure, the design reimagines the site with a series of horizontal slabs that integrate gardens, decks, and pools. These slabs slide gracefully between two robust vertical concrete elements that define the flanking ends of the house. Constructed from textured, planked shuttered concrete, these vertical elements serve as visual and functional anchors, forming tactile backdrops for interior spaces, display and storage features, and striking fireplaces.
Living spaces are created in the voids between these horizontal planes, offering a seamless flow and openness to the surrounding views. The master suite, a standout feature of the home, dramatically cantilevers over the entertainment and pool area, providing an awe-inspiring vantage point of the ocean and creating a bold architectural statement.
The façade facing the street incorporates a dynamic double-skinned screen with integrated garage panels, ensuring privacy while allowing light and glimpses of the mountain to filter through. This screen adds an elegant, layered texture to the home’s exterior while maintaining a sense of openness.
With a restrained palette of natural materials and understated detailing, OVD525 House embodies simplicity and sophistication. Its architecture celebrates the ever-changing vistas of the ocean and city while providing calm, flowing spaces designed for easy, luxurious living.
