Precision Meets Emotion in a Villa Designed as an Object of Art
Perched within the serene setting of Laren, Netherlands, the BMW Villa—also known as 7 Series House—is more than a residence. It’s a sculptural object, meticulously shaped to embody power, elegance, and precision. Inspired by the streamlined form language of the BMW 7 Series, this architectural statement reinterprets automotive design into bold spatial composition.
“We didn’t just want to build a house,” shares the lead architect at LAREN Architects in a conversation with Luxury Houses Magazine. “We wanted to craft an experience—an architecture of acceleration and stillness.”
The result is a villa that feels engineered as much as it is designed. Layered volumes create interplay between compression and release, while sharp incisions define thresholds in a way that feels dynamic, even when at rest.

A Dialogue of Dynamics and Stillness
The architecture is grounded in contrast. Wide cantilevered overhangs stretch like aerodynamic wings, casting deep shadows and enhancing visual drama. Materials such as brushed aluminium, matte stucco, and warm timber create a tactile dialogue between smooth precision and natural warmth.
“Motion is embedded in every line,” the architect explains. “But the home also has moments of quiet, where light pools gently and textures soften the geometry.”
Interior spaces flow seamlessly, with carefully curated views and layered transparency. Sightlines stretch across multiple zones, subtly guiding the eye from entry to garden, from atrium to sky.

Minimalism With Muscle
Though restrained in palette, the home is rich in spatial tension. Every corridor, corner, and cut-out has been carefully placed to reinforce the narrative of movement and form. A double-height living space anchors the villa, its sculptural staircase rising like a folded ribbon of steel and oak.
“We approached this project with the same precision you’d expect in a luxury vehicle,” notes the architect. “Every surface had to feel intentional—refined, taut, and uncompromising.”
Rooms are curated rather than merely designed. The master suite opens onto a cantilevered terrace, hovering over the landscape like a poised vehicle at launch. The garage—fittingly—becomes part of the architecture, a glass-framed gallery for prized machines.
Architecture as Design Philosophy
At its core, BMW Villa is a testament to the power of cross-disciplinary inspiration. Just as the BMW 7 Series fuses technology, luxury, and performance, this villa integrates architecture, landscape, and experience.
“The house moves, but doesn’t move,” the architect reflects. “It’s kinetic in thought, static in form—a piece of architecture that carries velocity in its bones.”
