Description About The Project

House Ven by Studio Vision in Mossel Bay redefines coastal modernism through floating rooflines, seamless glazing, and refined natural materials that frame breathtaking ocean views.

The Project “House Ven” Information:

Modern Serenity Overlooking the Indian Ocean

Located in the picturesque town of Mossel Bay along South Africa’s Garden Route, House Ven by Studio Vision presents a refined exploration of coastal modern living. Set within the Mossel Bay Golf Estate on a 1,000m² site, the home embraces sweeping views of the Indian Ocean and the surrounding fynbos nature reserve.

“Our intent was to design a home that opens effortlessly to its natural surroundings while maintaining an intimate, livable character,” shares Studio Vision’s design director.

A Contemporary Family Home Rooted in Context

The client’s brief called for a double-storey modern residence that would maximize the views while offering comfort for family living and hospitality. The upper level houses the primary living areas and three en-suite bedrooms, all oriented southward toward the ocean panorama.

On the ground level, two en-suite guest bedrooms and a double garage create a distinct, private layer of accommodation. This clear zoning ensures that both residents and guests can enjoy independence while remaining visually connected through open sightlines and soft natural light.

Framing the Landscape Through Architecture

The design orients the home towards the southern views, with expansive sliding glass panels that dissolve boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. On the northern façade, a reflective water feature wraps gracefully around the living and dining areas, introducing a tranquil sensibility that complements the ocean’s rhythm.

The water feature transitions into a pool and an entertainment gazebo, positioned to capture framed views through the house and beyond — a dynamic interplay of architecture and landscape.

“The water element was envisioned as both a mirror and a buffer — it connects spaces visually while grounding the architecture in its natural setting,” notes the design team at Studio Vision.

Spatial Flow and Light Play

Inside, spatial organization follows a clear hierarchy of openness and intimacy. The kitchen, strategically placed to command prime ocean views, acts as the home’s social heart — a space where family rituals unfold amid changing daylight and horizon lines.

Above, floating roof planes detach from the walls to allow natural light to filter gently into the interiors. This subtle architectural gesture gives the impression that the roofs are “hovering,” enhancing both warmth and luminosity throughout the day.

Material Palette and Refined Detailing

House Ven showcases a restrained yet luxurious material language. Finishes include frameless glass balustrades, Brazilian ash wall cladding, quartz carpet floors, LED lighting, and floor-to-ceiling glazing.

The tactile richness of these materials complements the minimalist form, striking a delicate balance between transparency and solidity, warmth and precision.

“Every material was chosen not for spectacle but for its ability to age gracefully and echo the tones of the coastal landscape,” explains Studio Vision.

A Floating Sculpture of Light and Landscape

Through its layered geometry, water integration, and light-filtering rooflines, House Ven emerges as a sculptural response to its environment — an architectural dialogue between built form and horizon.

The result is a tranquil, modern sanctuary that captures the spirit of the Garden Route: a home that breathes with the ocean, anchored in simplicity, openness, and light.
