Architecture Design of Split House
Description About The Project
Split House, envisioned by Pitsou Kedem Architects, is a masterpiece that ingeniously centers around the concept of a sunken yard. Unlike typical placements at the plot’s edges, this yard takes center stage, spanning 25 meters in length, 5 meters in width, and nearly 7 meters in height. Serving as the nucleus of the structure, it gracefully divides the residence into three distinct zones.
Two bridges elegantly span the yard on the top floor, interconnecting the sections. The first bridge, accessed from the front door, provides a panoramic view of the entire expanse, with the living room and yard on one side and a hallway linking the children’s bedrooms on the other. The second bridge seamlessly links private and shared spaces, featuring a staircase to the basement level.
An exquisite recurring grid, fashioned from solid wood and iron, envelops the yard, house walls, and yard roof. This grid conceals doors and windows, including the main entrance leading to the living room, and doors linking the master bedroom and family room to the surrounding yard. The grid extends its influence to plastered yard walls, master bedroom concealments, and diverse areas like the wine bar and street-facing wall, exemplifying design unity throughout.

Text by the Architects: The sunken yard – usually meant to allow light into a basement floor and mostly placed at the fringes of the plot – is this house’s central motif. Measuring 25m long, 5m wide and almost 7m high, it sits in the heart of the structure and divides the house into three sections: one with the private bedroom facing the street; one with the living room and master bedroom facing the backyard; and between them, a section with the internal double-level yard that extends the entire length of the building.
