The Project “Paralelogramo House” Information:

Seamlessly blends functionality, openness, and natural integration

Nestled in the Cumbayá Valley of Quito, Ecuador, Paralelogramo House by Najas Arquitectos redefines modern residential living with an architectural composition that seamlessly blends functionality, openness, and natural integration. Designed for a private client, this residence takes inspiration from geometric precision, employing two parallelogram volumes in an L-shaped configuration. The result is a fluid, light-filled environment that maximizes both privacy and connectivity to the surrounding landscape.

An Entrance That Transitions into Openness

The first parallelogram serves as the main entry volume, housing a single-height foyer that carefully frames the approach. This architectural feature compresses the initial visual experience from the street, creating an element of anticipation.

✔ Upon crossing the door threshold, the space expands into a double-height living area, revealing uninterrupted panoramic views of the surrounding valley.
✔ Floor-to-ceiling glass panels establish a dynamic relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, connecting the social hub of the house to the back garden, swimming pool, and BBQ area.
✔ The flexible transparency of the structure ensures a continuous dialogue with nature, reinforcing the design philosophy of spatial fluidity.

A Thoughtfully Zoned Private Wing

The second parallelogram, positioned to the north, is dedicated to private and service functions. This wing is meticulously arranged to balance seclusion and interaction, ensuring that each space remains functional and harmonious.

✔ First Floor: Service areas, including the kitchen and utility rooms, are strategically placed for ease of access and separation from social zones.
A guest bedroom, a photo studio, and a home office cater to both personal and professional needs.
✔ Second Floor: Private bedrooms and a media room are arranged around a central terrace, fostering family interaction and relaxation.
This elevated outdoor gathering space provides unobstructed views of the valley, strengthening the home’s connection to nature.

Blurring the Lines Between Indoors and Outdoors

A defining characteristic of Paralelogramo House is its intentional use of transparency and materiality to establish a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.

✔ Expansive glass walls break conventional barriers, ensuring that every space is bathed in natural light.
✔ Minimalist yet warm materials, including stone, wood, and steel, enhance the architectural identity of the home while grounding it in its natural setting.
✔ The L-shaped configuration creates a sheltered garden oasis, reinforcing a sense of privacy while embracing openness.
