Embracing the Mediterranean Context
Nestled in the picturesque Les Deveses area of Dénia, Alicante, Mirma House stands as a testament to the seamless integration of architecture with its coastal environment. Designed by Carles Faus Arquitectura, the residence is situated on a flat plot that offers unobstructed views of the Mediterranean Sea from every vantage point.
“The plot has a totally flat topography, which allows you to enjoy the sea from all its points,” notes Carles Faus, emphasizing the site’s inherent potential. The project involved transforming a previously dark, multi-family dwelling with limited openings into a luminous, single-family home that fosters a profound connection with the outdoors.

A Play of Contrasts: Light and Shadow
Mirma House’s design is characterized by a deliberate interplay of contrasts. The front façade is rendered in pristine white, symbolizing light, the sea, and infinity, while the rear façade features darker tones, reflecting the distant mountains. This nuanced approach extends throughout the project, creating a dynamic visual dialogue between the building and its surroundings.

Access to the house is orchestrated through a central cantilevered entrance, accentuated with dark textures that echo the rear façade’s palette. This design choice not only emphasizes the entryway but also establishes a thematic continuity that resonates throughout the residence.

Sculptural Staircase: The Heart of the Home
At the core of Mirma House lies a sculptural staircase that serves as both a functional element and a focal point of artistic expression. Positioned prominently in the access area, the staircase is bathed in natural light from a strategically placed skylight, enhancing its visual impact and fostering a sense of spatial expansiveness.

“In order to achieve it, we opened all the spaces that house daytime life, thus expanding the spatial feeling of the whole,” explains Faus. This openness not only amplifies the interior volume but also facilitates a seamless flow between living areas, reinforcing the home’s airy ambiance.

Harmonizing Interior and Exterior Spaces
The residence thoughtfully delineates its spatial organization to enhance the relationship between indoor and outdoor environments. The ground floor accommodates guest bedrooms oriented towards a serene rear garden, while the upper floor houses family bedrooms, including a master suite with panoramic sea views.

A notable design feature is the introduction of a small first-floor garden, achieved by creating a void in the center of the plan. This element not only brings greenery into the upper level but also reinforces the continuous dialogue between the home’s interior and the natural landscape.
